Meet the Founder
Hello! Iโm Charisa Smith, OTD, OTR/L, PMH-C, and I am truly grateful to introduce myself as the founder of The Lifeset Group. My passion is supporting individuals and families through lifeโs transitions during the perinatal phase and beyond.
My approach is grounded in lived experience, empathy, evidence-based practices, and a commitment to providing accessible and inclusive care. I believe that every journey is unique, and I am honored to walk alongside you as you find balance, resilience, and community in this season. Your experience matters, and you are not alone.
My focus areas include moving through grief and loss, birth trauma, and perinatal mood disorders such as depression, OCD, and anxiety, and how they can impact your ability to engage fully in your daily occupations.
I also have additional training in therapeutic taping, cupping, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) techniques.

Occupational therapy in maternal health: Exploring the Barkin Index of Maternal Functioning as a potential tool
Transitioning into the role of a mother encompasses many physical and psychosocial changes, affecting the way a woman may function. Maternal health is an emerging area of practice for occupational therapists, and therefore, screening and assessment tools to support work in this area are needed. The Barkin Index of Maternal Functioning (BIMF) is a quantitative outcome measure that is used by health professionals to assess maternal functioning.
